Rugby Sevens
Rugby sevens can be referred to as one of the variants of the rugby union wherein only 7 players feature per side, in place of full 15. This version relating to rugby
union has been gaining popularity these days, with the notable competitions inclusive of Rugby World Cup Sevens and IRB Sevens World Series. Events like Commonwealth Games also witness Rugby sevens. Even though it had been conceived in the form of the event for the rugby union, the format of sevens has been adopted by rugby league as well.
Rugby sevens for women
Rugby sevens for women has been dominated by NZ, i.e. New Zealand, either with Aotearoa Maori Rugby sevens team for women (representing New Zealand) or New Zealand team (between 1999 and 2001). This team has won all of Hong Kong sevens till 2007. The US, however, had been winner in the year 2008 of Hong Kong Sevens. The inaugural Rugby World Cup for women tournament would be held next year, i.e. in the year 2009. The venue would be Dubai. This tournament would be taking place in concurrence with men’s tournament. The other strong nations in regards with women’s wonders are the USA and Australia. Commonwealth Games of the years 2018 or even 2014 might include Women’s Rugby sevens.
