Rugby explanation

Rugby is a popular outdoor sport famous in the western countries. Rugby originated in England in 1845.The game is divided in to two categories one being the rugby union and the other is known as rugby league. Rugby union can simply be referred as rugby or football and union in regions where league is played. A team in rugby consists of 15 players and the duration of the game is 80 minutes. The duration may vary for the junior level.

An official match is played under the supervision of a referee and is assisted by assistant referees.  The main objective of the game is to score more points than the opposite team. Points can be scored by kicking a goal or by scoring a try. A try is scored by a player when he grounds the ball within the goal area of the opposite team. Scoring a try fetches 5 points. When the ball is kicked above the crossbar of the opponent’s goal from the posts then it is taken as a goal. A dropped goal, a penalty goal and a conversion goal are the three ways in which one can score a goal. A penalty or a dropped goal fetches 3 points whereas scoring a conversion fetches 2 points.
