Former England rugby coach gets flaked for “racist” remark

Dick Best, a former rugby coach for the England team, found himself in another controversy after allegedly saying “racist” remarks about a black player.

This incident stemmed from a television interview he did earlier this week. Best was asked about his opinion on a certain player and he was quoted as answering, “You have always got to have a colored boy in the team.”

The TV network that aired the interview issued an apology, stating that Best thought he was already off-camera when he made the statement. Despite the efforts, anti-racist group Kick It Out criticized both the network and the former rugby coach for this issue.

Kick It Out Director Piara Power said that “racial stereotyping” is a serious issue that affects everyone.

Power added that Best’s statement implies that a certain ethnic group is classified as better at a sport than other, which should not be the case.

Best worked as an England coach and London Irish’s Director of Rugby. He’s currently a journalist. As of press time, he has not released an official statement regarding the issue. Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Rugby Football Union said that they won’t tolerate any discrimination based on color or race.
