The sport’s governing body cited alleged breach of the IRB Code of Conduct and Regulations Relating to the Game.

The charges were filed because the South African team Springboks wore armbands during its game against British and Irish Lions last weekend. The said gesture was said to have been made for the team’s support of Bakkies Botha who was suspended for two weeks.

IRB stated that the move made by the team was a clear demonstration that the players don’t respect the disciplinary process. The act itself could also inspire disrepute on the game.
The South Africa Rugby Union has been informed by the board that the disciplinary proceedings will start and will be presided by an independent Judicial Panel Chairman. The chairman in turn will appoint the committee.

Botha’s ban resulted when he charged on Adam Jones during the second-half time on the game. Jones needed corrective surgery following the incident since his shoulder got dislocated.
The Springbok maintained that there was nothing wrong with what Botha did since it was never intentional.

De Villiers has threatened to resign as the team’s Rugby Coach.

“I should walk away from this job and give it back to the whites,” he stated.

Such reaction comes after he was accused of illicit behavior.

As it seems, the Springbok’s Rugby media officer – Chris Hewitt - approached de Villiers with threats of exposing a sex tape. The sex tape supposedly shows de Villiers with an unknown woman. Hewitt is now facing disciplinary action because of his claims.

de Villiers said that the alleged tape was being used to blackmail him into accepting a new player into the team.

“I knew there were still people who do not want a black coach; I just never knew the extent people would go to discredit me,” he said.

The SARU (South African Rugby Union) has since determined that the allegations against de Villiers are false and without basis.
