According to reports, the global financial crisis was the main factor behind the hesitation of the union, stating that shelling out that amount to serve as guaranteed funding by the International Rugby Board (IRB) could lead to the union’s bankruptcy.RugbyWorldCup

Francis Baron, England Rugby Union Chief Executive Officer, said that even if it’s a great honor to host the prestigious event, it would be risky to put the union into financial risk.

With this in mind, the England Rugby union is now hesitant to submit their bid. The deadline to submit the bid to host the Rugby World Cup is on Friday, May 8.

Baron added that if England gets to host the Cup by then, it will receive full support from the government and the Welsh Rugby Union, but officials from the latter stressed that it won’t make a joint bid.

On Wednesday, Scotland withdrew its bid to host the 2015 rugby event. Other countries that are still in the running are South Africa, Italy and Japan. The 2011 Rugby World Cup will take place in New Zealand.

It is a kind of competitive outdoor contact sport. Two teams with 15 players for each team play this sport with an oval ball. The rugby union is one of the main codes of rugby football. The other is rugby league. The rugby union also has rugby sevens, a seven-a-side variant usually played under specific laws and it is also played by two teams with only seven players. Some people may not know about rugby union because it is more popularly known as rugby and rugger although the latter has already declined.
The rugby union matches last for 80 minutes with a few minutes for the stoppage time. There is also a short interval which should not last more than 10 minutes given after the first 40 minutes of the match and usually under 19 levels or lesser. However, there are some games that are limited to only 70 minutes with an interval of 35 minutes.
The rugby union matches are usually controlled by a referee. The referee is usually by two other men called assistant referee or touch judges. However, for professional rugby union matches, the controller of the match is called TMO or Television Match Official or video referee. The TMO or video referee gives advices to the match referee in terms of dropped goals or scoring of tries.
